My Commitment To You as the

Referring Physician

  • Regular communication with you about your patients

  • Ease in responsiveness

  • Collaboration when appropriate or necessary

  • Shared decision-making when medication changes are appropriate

  • Excellent, thoughtful, evidence-based care of your patients

  • I take the time during my 1-2 hour sessions with your patients to work on the deep, root causes of their weight-related issues.

Please note that while I am board-certified in internal medicine, I do not function as a primary care physician. My treatment of your patients is as their weight loss specialist. All primary care needs are referred back to the PCP.

Whom to refer:

  • Those with complex emotional eating, binge-eating disorder, and body-image concerns. These issues can seriously impact a patient's health and quality of life. I have designed an approach that treats emotional hunger and allows my patients to make sustainable changes, and to restore their sense of joy in eating.

  • Those with pre-existing metabolic diseases, such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, coronary artery disease, stroke, who have been unsuccessful trying other weight loss methods.

  • Those with new or existing diagnoses of Type 2 diabetes who need close follow-up of blood sugars to prevent hypoglycemia while implementing dietary and lifestyle changes, including the use of intermittent fasting. My aim is a reversal of insulin resistance, and a reduction of medication burden.

  • Candidates for bariatric surgery, who need to reduce their weight prior to surgery.

  • Those who have undergone bariatric surgery, but who are at risk for weight regain.

  • Those who are placed on weight loss medications, but need to treat the underlying source of their overweight or obesity. My goal when using weight loss medications is to have my patients transition off of them once they have reached a goal weight.

  • Pediatricians can refer parents who want to consult about helping their children develop a healthy relationship with food and a healthy body image.

  • I currently work with patients from age 18 through their 80s, with a wide spectrum of weight-related issues.
